Make the first release smaller than you want

A thin slice is how you find out whether the problem was real.

The first release should embarrass you a little. If it already has settings, roles, and a report, you have probably skipped the part where a real user tries the one action that matters.

Pick the loop you watched on the gemba. Replace the worst manual step with something a person can finish without a trainer. Ship it to the people who do that job, not to a staging audience of stakeholders.

Then measure the number you agreed on. If it does not move, the slice was wrong and you are glad it was small. If it does, you have earned the next cut — and only the next cut.
